
Tear ducts start with two small channels located inside each eyelid and end with a larger channel that opens into the tear sac and nasal cavity.
The causes of tear duct obstruction can be categorized into two main groups. The first is the incomplete development of tear ducts in the fetus during pregnancy. The second group consists of acquired causes. Sinusitis, tear sac stones, infections, tumors, inflammatory diseases, and facial injuries can lead to tear duct blockages.
In infants, treatment can be done through massage or other necessary methods, while in adults, different procedures may be applied. In adults, the initial treatment options include dilation, probing, and irrigation.
